Hello gorgeous girls,
So i’m super duper excited for today’s post because it’s a long awaited (and very overdue) DIY!
And this one has to be one of my favourite DIY’s i’ve done so far, because it’s a coffee scrub!
I’ve seen these all over instagram, especially Frank body scrub, and i’ve always wanted one! So i decided to look up the ingredients of a coffee scrub, and i realised that it was actually so simple to make on your own, and only required very few ingredients and materials!
So without further ado, here’s my DIY coffee scrub…
You will need the following:
+ a clear jar [can be any shape]
+ brown sugar
+ coffee grinds
+ coconut oil
+ cinnamon or lime
+ slowly using a spoon place your coffee grinds into your jar – you’ll need about 1/4 to 1/2 a cup of coffee grinds. I just got mine from my house as we have a coffee machine that produces the ground coffee after one is made, but i’m sure you can to your local cafe and get them to grind some up for you!
+ add in your coconut oil – you’ll need around 1 tablespoon of coconut oil – Mine is in a massive jar from my supermarket, but any coconut oil will work exactly the same!
+ now it’s time to add in some brown sugar – you’ll only need around 1 teaspoon of brown sugar – I just got mine from my local supermarket, doesn’t have to be anything fancy.
+ Now you can either use cinnamon, or lime for this step. I went with lime because i thought coconut and lime would be a good mix! If you’re going with lime, just squeeze in a tiny wedge of lime juice, this is just to give it a scent. Or if you’re using cinnamon, add in just a pinch.
+ now just give it a good mix, making sure all the ingredients are combined!
+ add on some cute little decorations such as washi tape, and a cute ‘my coffee scrub’ tag! This can be done any way you like, remember to make it unique, and you!
+ now it’s time to get in the shower and scruba-dub-dub with your new coffee scrub, oh, and don’t forget to take a cute little selfie for your instagram before you wash it all away!
+ coffee is an exfoliate, meaning it can be used to scrub away dead skin to reveal the new, healthy skin underneath. Exfoliating with coffee grounds improves circulation, leaving you with smooth, glowing skin.
+ while you won’t ingest nearly as much caffeine when your coffee is on your skin instead of in your cup, the caffeine from used coffee grounds can temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite and give your skin a firmer appearance. Caffeine draws water from cells – making them smaller – and constricts blood vessels slightly to create a smooth, more even tone of skin.
+ coconut oil contains protein, anti-ageing properties, vitamin E and saturated fats. All helping in making your skin both smoother, and healthier.
+ brown sugar is added as it is softer than regular sugars, meaning it can be used as an exfoliator on your face, without being harmful to sensitive skin. However, it is also strong enough to scrub away dead skin cells and make way for the healthier, glowing skin to show through.
+ If you get your coffee grinds and they are either wet, or just slightly damp, leave them out on a plate or chopping board overnight just on the kitchen bench, this will allow them to dry out a bit, and will help a lot then it comes to mixing up your ingredients.
+ along with this, when you’ve finished mixing your coffee scrub together, place it in the fridge for about 15 to 30 minutes, this is just so that it’s able to cool down and set before you take it into the steaming shower.
+ scrub all over your body, legs, face, arms, chest, everywhere! then just rinse it off in your shower or bath! If you have some oily residue left over on your skin, just use some soap, and rinse it off!
+ when out of the shower, put some moisturiser on your legs for extra smoothness!
